![]() ![]() If I use the Media "image" setting, then I scan without colour adjustments on the "color tab" in Vuescan, and open the output file with darktable to use the negadoctor. If I scan with the Media type "colour negative" setting (input tab), then VueScan does the inversion, and I don't require darktable. I'm still trying to determine the best workflow: sometimes I get better results using VueScan alone, and sometimes better results with VueScan + darktable. Questions:įor the record, which distro are you using (I am using MX Linux)?I have the professional version of VueScan. I have had one scanner with a Darktable colour matrix (Konica Minolta 5400 II), and one without (Epson Photo 4490), and have just been doing a lot of scanning, then using Darktable to finish the DNG for the Konica, but went back to TIFFs for the flatbed. Are you scanning with Vuescan using the colour negative setting?įor the record, which distro are you using (I am using MX Linux)? Have you got the professional version of VueScan? ![]() Has anyone else had similar issues and been able to resolve? (For what it's worth, I'm scanning Portra 400 negatives.)Hey there. I haven't been able to resolve this (yet), and in the meantime I've reverted back to an older version of darktable. However, when I upgraded to darktable 3.8, I saw the message "'Epson Perfection4870' color matrix not found!", and the images would be desaturated. I recently started using darktable for my colour negative workflow on Linux: I scan using VueScan, writing the output to a raw (DNG) file, load into darktable to invert with the "negadoctor" tool, and then touch-up the curves in GIMP. I went for a detailed, relaxed (less punchy) look, fitting into the printer gamut and looking good at paper contrast. But the - by 3.8 rather well-polished - scene-referred workflow in DT is now faster for me end-to-end. And of course, I did not pick any pixelshift images this year. There might be still a little more detail to be had with RT, but it's getting extremely close. My 2022 calendar (A2 size) is the very first one, for which I exclusively used DT-processed images, not rawtherapee nor gimp required this year. Having dedicated dials is however more fun and natural to use.Īny other users of it? Any hints/experiences/recommendations? Some things, like manual color temp + tint now only start to make sense to me, previously the 'dynamic shortcut' feature was as close as I could get. To my surprise, 3.8 came with thorough midi support and just that device is the best tested one! I have not found any out of the box shortcut definitions for it, but started to put my typical modules together and get good coverage for most of my needs. I had bought a used behringer X TOUCH Mini controller a while back and played with the hacked-together DT integration back then. ![]()
